A Body Mass Index, or BMI Calculator, calculates the relationship between height and weight. It is one of the most precise ways to find out if unneeded pounds present health risks. The federal government has set guidelines that determine a healthy weight. A Body Mass Index of 18.5 to 24.9 suggests the least health risk, while a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is viewed as overweight. A person with a BMI between 25 and 34.9 and a waist size greater than 35 inches for women or 40 inches for men are believed to have an elevated risk for health problems.
A person who is overweight but has no other risk factors (such as heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes) should eat healthy and exercise to prevent additional weight gain. A person who is overweight with health risks should actively attempt to lose weight. Weight loss of just 5-10% can reduce a person's overall risk for other related health issues. Always consult a doctor or physician before starting any weight loss or exercise program.
